The Emotion Management Program, LLC (EMP) offers treatment for a wide range of psychological disorders in adults including, but not limited to depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress. We specialize in treating persons who suffer from chronic distress, which refers to behavior patterns that maintain long-term emotional suffering. These persons engage in maladaptive coping behaviors that can result in affective instability, impulsiveness, chaotic interpersonal relationships, self-injury, or a combination of these. Our Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) services are particularly suited for these individuals.
EMP specializes in DBT. Nonetheless, we recognize that not everyone requires a highly intensive outpatient service. EMP therapists also provide traditional outpatient services for persons who struggle with problems related to depression, anxiety, food and substance abuse, and work with individuals and couples seeking to enhance their relationships and develop meaningful lives.
DBT Program Requirements
EMP's DBT program is an intensive outpatient program, usually involving one individual session and one group session per week. Participants are required to have a DBT individual therapist. Outcome data shows this is essential to successful treatment. For reasons of cost and focus, we suggest that participants temporarily suspend or at most check-in monthly with any long-term therapists with whom they may be working during Stage 1 treatment. We consider Stage 1 work in DBT as time-limited. After Stage 1 targets are met, the client can return to their therapist.
We require a three month commitment to the DBT program. We do not intend to suggest that treatment will be complete in this timeframe. However, participants and their therapist should have a good sense of whether the program is leading to improvement within this timeframe. Should this be the case, most participants renew consecutive three-month commitments. The average length of Stage 1 treatment is 9 to 14 months.
